Welcome to the SC iAm Laptop Project Website

Happy Spring!

I'm sure you are all ready for spring and the approaching end of the year. Camilla and I are working on the calendar to make sure we don't interfere with testing or other end-of-the-year events. If you see something that causes conflict, please let one of us know. Thank you again for all the emails with the counts of lessons with the laptops and for all the lesson plan submissions. We will work over the summer to create an organized way to present them for future use.

As you will see, we are interested in evaluating the changes in computer skill sets over time. Are you seeing unexpected changes, in your own abilities as well as those of your students? Next year's evaluation will, of course, continue down the path of long-term change. Questions or comments may be directed to Catherine Watt.

None of these surveys will take more than five minutes of your time, and certainly no more than 10 minutes for your students.

We are trying to schedule visits to your schools that will enable us to talk with some of your students' parents. As we enter the full second year of the iAm Laptop initiative, we will determine the extent to which laptop use has become integrated into your daily lessons and into the students' daily practices. Thank you so much for all your help. We appreciate your comments.

Announcements and Reminders

Please take just a few minutes to respond to the teachers' questions here (All teachers take the same survey):

Then, a very brief student survey can be found here:

The Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) is one of the most respected education research consortia in the country, and they have a new site just for teachers in the 16-state group. Give it a try!! www.srebonlineteachers.org

During our presentation we were reminded of the School Rooms program offered through the SC State library. For more information, please check out http://scsl.schoolrooms.net/rooms/portal/page/Sirsi_HOME -- this is a free service and includes a variety of information.

Continuing from last semester, we are asking you to respond to questions on the number and types of lessons conducted using technology. Teachers, you can email a month at a time in one email, send it in a spreadsheet -- whatever is easiest for you.

  1. How many lesson plans are implemented each week using the laptop, without internet access?
  2. How many lesson plans were implemented each week, using internet connectivity?
