THOMAS D. POTTS

Dr. Tom Potts has returned from an extended stay in Central Europe where he was involved in academic and community development activities. As part of a Fullbright Scholorship. Tom taught courses promoting Travel Ecology & Community Development. Tom's academic host was the Faculty of Economics, Matej Bel University, Banska Bystrica, Slovak Republic. Tom taught over 130 students at Matej Bel during the fall. Tom found the students at Matej Bel to be attentive, polite and very interested in democracy. In addition to his teaching efforts, Tom assisted local NGOs with community development and democracy building efforts in 17 villages. Tom found that many villages have the same concerns about quality of life issues such as education, environment, employment, as we have here in the USA. Tom stated: "although this was an invaluable experience, I am anxious to return to assisting with community enhancement in South Carolina."
