Understanding the Costs of Higher Education:
A South Carolina Parent’s Guide©
alliance 

The Alliance for Research on Higher Education is pleased to announce to creation of a comprehensive volume designed to assist South Carolinians understand the complexities of higher education costs.  The Parent’s Guide is a collaborative effort involving some of the leaders in higher education finance, admissions, policy analysis, and planning.  Designed specifically to address the concerns and interests of South Carolinians, the Parent’s Guide will be a free resource guide that is available in print, compact disc, or online. 

The project is underway, and this web page will provide regular updates for those seeking publication information and updates, as well as a way for interested parties to ask questions about the project. 

  1. ProspectusDownload an Adobe version of the Parent’s Guide outline, including the intended audience, timeline, and chapter titles.
  2. Editors:  Brief biographies are available on the editors of the Parent’s Guide along with their contact information.
  3. Resources:  Links to available resources on financial aid, South Carolina, and college costs. (soon)

The Parent’s Guide will be published in May 2008.  As drafts become available for public comment, they will be placed on this site with opportunities for questions.  Institutions or authors interested in participating should contact Catherine Watt at the Alliance, cwatt@clemson.edu.

The Alliance is unique in its structure, allowing multiple voices to set the agenda and actively sharing results with partners.  We believe that the issues before us warrant a collaborative organization that benefits all of South Carolina, and that only when the constituent groups have full access to the data as well as to the analysis will the state move past its current challenges.
