The 1999-2001 Total Academic Performance Index (see description ) is simply an average across several standardized tests. All of the PACT scores (third through eighth grade with math and language arts subtests in each year), the Exit Exam scores (given in tenth grade with reading, writing and math subtests), and the average SAT scores (math plus verbal) are used in its computation.
The resulting index has a theoretical mean of 50 (sample mean of 51.02) and the 86 district scores range from 0.0 (actual minimum 1.24) to 100 (actual maximum 99.06). A score of 75 would indicate that the district is among the top 25% best performing districts, or that it is performing better than 75% of the districts.
