Purpose

SCAVA is a non-profit organization which provides opportunities for personal and professional development to individuals with an interest in the field of volunteerism. Membership is extended to both individuals and organizations in the public and private sectors who wish to learn more about the field of volunteerism, develop new skills, or shape the future of volunteerism in South Carolina. SCAVA offers conferences and workshops focusing on information and issues pertinent to volunteers and volunteer administrators.

Professional Development

SCAVA sponsors two professional conferences each year, in which members share resources and ideas, while learning new skills. Additional educational and professional development workshops may be offered throughout the year. SCAVA's Conference Committee brings nationally and regionally known speakers to its conferences and workshops in South Carolina. This gives workshop participants first-hand knowledge on vital issues and exposure to leaders in the field.

Education

Your SCAVA membership opens doors to state and national concerns on volunteerism. Membership in SCAVA brings you a national voice by way of membership in the Association for Volunteer Administration (AVA). Through newsletters (Volunteerism Network), reports, and bulletins, SCAVA members are kept abreast of key issues facing volunteer administrators, volunteerism and the profession of volunteer administration. SCAVA's member survey is the only source of salary information pertaining to the state's volunteerism profession. The most recent survey is the 2004 Member Survey.

Networking

SCAVA offers and promotes mutual support, cooperation and reinforcement in a professional network. Membership lists are available to facilitate networking options. Additional opportunities to connect are provided at conferences, workshops, and local affiliates. Members are encouraged to share their own newsletters, information, interests, and concerns through the statewide network.

Awards, Scholarship and Continuing Education Credit

SCAVA and the Office of the Governor, Division of Volunteer Services, work together to present the Annual Governor's Volunteer Awards each year. Volunteers are honored in eight categories.
