The Strom Thurmond Institute spatial analysis laboratory is a fully functioning
geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing/image analysis
laboratory. The Institute has the facilities, expertise and experience to
perform many types of spatial analysis tasks as well as project planning and
management.

- Sun ULTRA 10 server.
- One Sun ULTRA 2, three Sun ULTRA 1's, and one Sun SPARC 20 workstations, all running ARC/INFO software from ESRI, and IMAGINE software from ERDAS;
- Two Trimble Pathfinder global positioning system (GPS) units;
- 275+ Gigabytes of hard disk storage for the SUN network;
- 1+ Gigabytes RAM on 5 servers;
- CD-ROM drives: for SUN, Macintosh and DOS machines;
- Two tape archive systems, 1/4 inch and 8mm cartridges;
- HP 755 CM Design Jet Plotter;
- 3 Calcomp Drawing Board III digitizers (one 36" and two 12");
- Tektronix Phaser IIsdx color printer;
- Several laser printers; and
- Network server connections for WWW, Gopher, FTP and SLIP/PPP
