Get the Information

The Bread Loaf Rural Teacher Network BLRTN is a national organization of teachers sponsored by Middlebury College's Bread Loaf School of English and funded by the DeWitt Wallace Reader's Digest Fund. The BLRTN has a branch office maintained at the Strom Thurmond Institute. The LRTN exists in eight states (SC, GA, MS, VT, CO, NM, AZ, AK) and is dedicated to foster fundamental improvement in the quality and educational and career development opportunities for all school-age youth, and to increase access to these opportunities for young people in low-income rural communities.

Teachers in the BLRTN have received full fellowships to attend the Bread Loaf School of English at Middlebury College during the summers for graduate study and training in technology. When they return to their communities and schools during the school year, they engage in collaborative projects with other teachers in the network across the country bringing students on line in projects related to me teaching of writing, literature, and theater arts.

The *Bread Loaf Rural Teacher Network Magazine* is published semi-annually and addresses themes relevant to rural teachers, students, communities and schools. Previous issues of the magazine have focused on school reform, rural ways of knowing, language and culture, online networking across boundaries, and building community. The majority of the articles are written by students and teachers in the BLRTN.
