Stories From Students Displaced by Hurricane Katrina

SAC students separated by storm.
Keva Carr, left, graduated from Douglass in May, 2005. In the summer, her family moved to St. Bernard Parish. They lost everything in Katrina. Keva is a freshman at Northwestern Louisiana University. Two of her writings accompany this photo.

Maria Hernandez, center, was a senior at Douglass. She served as primary researcher/writer for Plessy Park: The New Orleans Civil Rights Project. She plans to continue this work while she finishes her senior year of high school in Oklahoma.

Rodneka Shelbia, right, was waiting to enroll in Baton Rouge public high school as of Wed, Sept 14, 2005. While she waits, she is continuing to write about her family and her city.
