SAC will use contributions to support its work in the following categories:
-
Transportation to help us travel to sites for the Listen to the People project and to help our core group of students, teachers, and graduates get together at least every other month. Upcoming travel includes an early November residency with N. O. students displaced to Houston and the "homecoming" in New Orleans on Saturday, November 12.
- Equipment and Software (laptop computers, external hard drives, video cameras)
- Book Publication Costs. We print books of student writing (especially on the history of New Orleans) that can serve as supplemental textbooks for N. O. youth in the diaspora, for the communities and schools that are hosting our students, and for those folk in the U. S. and abroad who are interested in N. O.
- Staff Salary/Stipend Support: This funding allows Kalamu ya Salaam to co-direct and teach, community artists to partner with us, and graduates to join staff and/or work on projects. Graduate Ashley Jones currently works as digital video producer/teacher and graduate Adrinda Kelly works as director of publications.
