Teen Profiles

This page features profiles and related writings on youth who are doing positive things in the New Orleans area. Check back later for more stories on individuals and groups that Students at the Center writers feature.
  • Urban Youth Against Violence

This group is currently participating in an initiative to train teens and young adults to work as board members for non-profit organizations. Member Clarence Hill originally wrote this profile for Our Voice, the city-wide teen newspaper that Students at the Center publishes.

  • Andrew Hebert: A Brother Whose Solar Energy is Rising Strong

Andrew Hebert, recently released from three years of incarceration in the state juvenile justice system, sees writing as an important emotional and social outlet. Andrew has spoken to SAC classes and joined with Frederick Douglass SAC student Bruce "Philosophy" Coleman in a writing workshop. This section contains two poems by Hebert and two essays -- one also a review of The Autobiography of Malcolm X -- by Coleman that tell Hebert's story.
