Write to Change is a non-profit organization with the mission of promoting school and community projects that encourage action research, writing, and public service. Our goal is to create partnerships that link in-school and after-school programs to community-based efforts that improve information and services provided to young people. By providing training, materials, and technical assistance, Write to Change enables students and teachers to create and use informal networks that establish connections among their peers and experts in various fields.
Write to Change, a community service literacy program with sites in South Carolina and other states, supports cooperative projects devoted to the talk of creating a new vision of literacy linked to service and public life. Write to Change views students as powerful but under-used educational resources in schools and communities.
Write to Change conducts qualitative research and evaluation for literacy programs, technology and networking programs, and communities, focusing on how research and evaluation can influence positive change. Write to Change conducts school residencies, staff development workshops and courses, site-specific seminars and workshops, and develops and field tests curricula and programs.
Write to Change is fortunate to be able to report that a private trust has provided a generous endowment that permits us to continue to make small grants to support Write to Change projects and that assists us as we seek additional funds for the endowment and for special projects.
Write to Change offers a limited number of low-cost specialized workshops, residencies, and series of on-site visits to schools and after-school community action groups.
